Spades is a classic four-player trick-taking game played in teams of two with a standard 52-card deck. This version plays fully offline against computer opponents, follows the traditional rules, and works for both beginners and experienced players.

How to play Spades

Spades is a classic card game for four players in two teams. You play with a normal deck of 52 cards and no jokers. Each player gets 13 cards and bids how many tricks they will win. The two partners add their bids to make the team's bid. You can also bid nil, which means you promise to win zero tricks. A blind nil means you bid nil before you look at your cards.

You must play a card of the same suit as the first card. If you don't have that suit, you can play a spade. Spades always beat other suits. You can't lead with a spade until someone has played a spade on another suit. This is called "breaking spades". After 13 tricks, a team that wins its bid gets points, and a team that misses its bid loses points. Extra tricks are called bags. If your team collects ten bags, you lose points.

Change the rules to fit your game

How to Play Spades:
Spades is a popular trick-taking card game played with 4 players in teams of two. The game is played using a standard 52-card deck (no jokers).

Each player bids how many tricks they will win. You can also bid nil (0) if you haven't got good hands. If you bid nil(0) and won 0 tricks, you will get nil bonus but you won any tricks, you get negative penalty. You can also bid blind nil (bidding nil without looking at your cards). (This option can be disabled in settings).
One player starts by playing a card. The other players must play a card of the same suit if they have it. If they don’t, they can play spades.

Spades suit is always the strongest suit. Spades are trump cards and beat all other suits. Spades cannot be played until someone 'breaks spades' or you don't have the current suit played.

After all 13 tricks are played, teams earn points:
If your team wins at least as many tricks as you bid, you get points.

If your team wins fewer tricks than your bids, you lose points.

Taking extra tricks gives bonus points (called bags), but 10 bags can give a penalty.
The game continues until one team reaches the target score (usually 500 points). The team with the highest score wins.
